Top 5 Honeymoon Destinations in Kerala
Nowadays we plan our honeymoon as soon as the wedding date is fixed. Honeymoon is the best time to get to know your spouse and enjoy quality time together. Its is always better to plan in advance as you have to select a place mutually acceptable, find the details and reserve the rooms. I admit that when it comes to Kerala, it is a bit difficult to choose as there are so many locales where Cupid finds it easy to be active. The major Honeymoon Destinations in Kerala is mentioned here.
Let us take a look. I have chosen places that are scenic at the same time offer you more privacy (which of course is what you want in a honeymoon!).
1. Kerala Backwaters
Backwaters never fail to attract; Kerala has plenty of lakes, lagoons, islands all interconnected by waterways. It would be ideal to start your cruise from Alleppey to the south. Actually you can start from any point to the south as it is a long stretch of waterways. A couple may engage a houseboat with a single bedroom but it should be air conditioned to make it real pleasant. The scenery is stunningly attractive, the blue-green waters, the coconut trees with their green heads swaying against the blue sky with white fluffy scattered clouds, the paddy fields on the banks green or golden according to the season.
You come across boats of all types such as traditional “Kettuvallom ” a rope bound boat, wide slightly rounded country boats, small shikaras, all carrying happy faces. You see a slice of country life with its rustic activities.
There are so many islands in the backwaters. At some you can stop, walk around. Pathiramanal is a well-known island on the way. But Kumarakom a cluster of islands draws more admirers as life is more orderly for visitors there. Plenty of hotels and resorts to choose from. The bird sanctuary there is super. Canoes are available to take you across. Your cruise may take you to some lovely lakes such as Ashtamudi and Sasthamkotta set among greenery. These places are a treat for photographers, but don’t neglect photo ops with your partner. This is a major Honeymoon Destinations in Kerala
2. Wayanad
Wayanad is hilly all along, with moderate weather. It is not far from Calicut Airport. If you are short of time you can stay at an island resort on the road from the airport to Calicut. All amenities are available such as swimming pool, boating, Ayurvedic massage and so on. I’d prefer to proceed to Wayanad, for almost every stay there ensures you a romantic setting. Ensconce yourself in the cosy room of a resort or hotel, and plan your days. If living in a tree-house was your childhood dream, go for one in a resort. It has all the facilities you want, at the same time the air of a life in a jungle. This is another Honeymoon Destinations in Kerala
Some outdoor activity enlivens your honeymoon. Go for a picnic to Pookot lake, pedal together in a boat, or ride in a boat enjoying the invigorating atmosphere of greenery all around. Buy some souvenirs from the emporium if you wish to.
View from Chembra Peak the highest point in Wayanad is great, but you have to trek. Maybe leave it for your next trip. There are two waterfalls worth seeing, Meenmutti and Soochipara. The latter offers you a chance to bathe and swim. This is a Honeymoon Destinations in Kerala
3. Vagamon
Vagamon is a Honeymoon Destinations in Kerala. Vagamon is one of the 50 must-be-seen places in India, mentioned by the National geographic. It is 65 km from Kottayam. At an altitude of 1100 ft the weather is never hot even on a summer midday. The highway cut across hard rock is a marvel, with the pine forests, deep valleys, mountain mists providing a background not seen in Kerala. This narrow descending strip connects the hill station to the plains.
Vagamon is surrounded by three hills, but the vast meadows give you the feeling of space. The place is well known for varieties of orchids. There are fine resorts available and the charges are not too high. It is definitely a place for an unforgettable honeymoon.
4. Poovar Island
It is located just 30 km from Trivandrum. The land lies between the backwaters and the sea. A short boat ride from the town of Poovar brings you to this island. There are a number of resorts with cottages built on land as well as floating on water. They are set up in all luxury.
Some cottages are totally green, Eco-friendly with solar power, thatched roofs and curtains made of medicinal plants. Every cottage ensures total privacy and enchanting scenic views. By the way the first tsunami proof building has been recently built here.
5. Bekal Beach
Kerala offers you a number of good beaches, but I choose Bekal beach for a couple of reasons. I had a lovely time there which still stays with me. The sand is clean, and the views are great. After dusk suddenly you are not in the dark, the place is lit up for a couple more hours. We could swim without disturbance as it was neither a weekend nor a holiday.(Note my tip). The place has been declared a special tourism area, so there are all amenities and lots of comfortable accommodation.
It is not just a beach, there is a bonus of the wonderful 16th century Bekal Fort that stands on the headland between the two stretches of sand. It is the biggest fort in Kerala . It was built in the 16th century for military purpose. Stand on the rounded part that juts into the sea and get awed by the crashing waves way below that pound against the base.
Bekal is just 16 km from Kasargod, the nearest town, you can go there from any part of Kerala. Mangalore Airport is the nearest airport.
Kerala has a lot more hideouts and honeymoon gateways; but these I am sure will enthrall you and make your honeymoon trip to Kerala most memorable.
