17 Tips for Safe Travel in Kerala

For the convenience of every guest who travels to Kerala, we encourage you to read through the travel tips mentioned here. The tips mentioned here are as per our own experience and is subjective and depends on different perspective.

Kerala Travel Tips

  1. Kerala has a balanced climate throughout the year and you do not experience extreme hot or cold
  2. We recommend you to carry woolen clothes if your itinerary includes Munnar or Thekkady as they are cold places
  3. While doing flight reservations, you can book to Cochin (Kochi), Trivandrum or Calicut depends on your travel plan and with the consultation of your travel agent
  4. While booking train tickets if you are trying for Cochin, search Ernakulam which is same as Cochin. There is no railway station by name Cochin and code for Ernakulam is ERN or ERS
  5. Foreign passengers are required to obtain a VISA from the nearest Indian Consulate and remember to apply for the VISA at least 14 days before date of arrival and buy adequate travel insurance
  6. Safety is of prior importance and we recommend you to use seat belts
  7. For your safety, try to carry minimal gold ornaments
  8. There are lots of ATMs at most of the places there by avoiding carrying more cash with you
  9. Always try to carry mineral water with you and avoid unsafe water from taps for drinking
  10. Smoking and consumption of alcohol is prohibited at public places and will be fined if caught
  11. Avoid hugging or kissing at public places which attracts public attention, being the orthodox attitude of people around you
  12. Nudity is not allowed at any public places
  13. Do carry your medicines and few tablets for fever, cold, head ache, vomiting etc
  14. If you have the habit of vomiting during traveling, inform your driver in advance. If you get the feel for vomiting during travel ask your drive to stop the vehicle and do not vomit inside the vehicle or through the windows
  15. India s time zone is GMT/UTC +5.30 and can expect jet lag for International passengers. We recommend you to get onto India s time zone before you leaves your home town and try to eat and sleep on Indian time. This helps you to get adjusted fast to start enjoying your trip
  16. It is advisable to take the package with breakfast only. If you opt for a package with lunch/dinner you would have already paid for the food and if you are not liking the food from the hotel you do not have any other option than wasting your money
  17. It is not recommended to travel after 7PM as there will be fog on the road and is danger to drive during this time. Try to reach your hotel before 7PM so that you get enough time for relaxing and re-energizing yourself for the next day

Ours was a 6 days 5 nights honeymoon trip. Munnar-Thekkady-Alleppey-Kumarakom-Cochin

    First of all, the positives:

The MD Mr. Ratheesh was quite courteous and professional and we were welcomed nicely in the office. He explained us the itinerary very well along with the caveats.

The driver provided to us, Mr. Gopan, although not very good with Hindi could communicate quite well and his driving skills were commendable.

We had a lot of flexibility regarding where to eat, where to shop etc.
We appreciate that Gopan made minor changes to our itinerary after consultation with us for our convenience due to the traffic problem on the eve of 31st Dec.

    The few negatives:

We missed the Periyar boat ride as the bookings were full owing to heavy tourist inflow during holiday season. This is indeed, out of control of the tour operator. However, I would have appreciated if we were made aware of such a possibility in advance so that we could have booked in advance or made alternative arrangements.

Nonetheless, the trip was very relaxing and comforting as it gave us the long awaited break from our routine. We enjoyed a lot. Thanks to Paradise Holidays team.

I would definitely recommend Paradise holidays to my friends.
